The plain ornament is $16 and a personalized hand stamped ornament is $21. Names are hand stamped into the steel. I stamp them personally.
This is an original raw steel ornament made by Richard Walker. I am a one man operation. These are great to give to a person who has recently lost their dog or it could be for someone who just got a new dog. Many people display these year round.
Materials – Only the highest quality materials are used. I cut these out of 14 gauge steel that is about the thickness of a Nickel. They are thick enough not to bend but not overly heavy.
The Finish – This piece has a natural uncoated raw steel finish. The color is a dark gray to bluish gray. When this steel is made at the foundry the heating process produces this nice hard gray blue finish which consists of iron oxides. Since this is a natural finish, the look of each piece will vary. The predominant color is always the bluish gray and it is common to have darker areas, some spots, or even some brown hues as well. They are all beautifully unique.
The gray coating has some natural resistance to corrosion but these pieces may develop some rust in more humid environments. Rust does add to the patina and the finish will look better with age. Any rust can easily be removed with some steel wool.
The Process – I start off with an original design then cut each piece on a plasma cnc that I actually designed and built. After cutting, I hand grind each piece around the edges, both front and back to make sure they are smooth and then do some hand grinding to refine the designs to make them as nice as possible. After grinding, a hand tied piece of jute twine is attached for hanging.
